New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation

Dr Ir Djadjang Sukarna looks into energy policies and strategies for Indonesia, which include energy conservation and diversification, as well as a five-year roadmap for new renewable energy from 2010-2015.

Prior to his current position as Secretary of Directorate General of the New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Indonesia, Dr Ir Sukarna was a Geology Expert on cartography in 1982 for a decade. He became Head Section of Sulawesi, Busur Banda and the Timor Area between 1992 and 2001. From 2001, he was Head of Documentation and Information Subsector for a year, before becoming Head of the Program and Information Sector from 2003 to 2004.

Dr Ir Sukarna was made Head of Geological Research and Development Center in 2004. Two years later, he became Head of the Geological Survey Center until 2007. Following this, he worked as Secretary of the Agency of Geology for three years, before becoming Head Bureau of Planning and Cooperation till 2010. He has a Bachelor's in Geology, University of Padjadjaran, Bandung, a PhD in Economic Geology from the Rijk Universiteit Gent, Belgium, and a Post-Doctorate Research at CSIRO.
