Mr Gavin Thompson joined Wood Mackenzie in 1997, managing the Asia Pacific Energy Markets team. He has been particularly involved in issues surrounding the development of gas and power markets in China, including working in Beijing in 2001 as an advisor to PetroChina on the West-East pipeline.

Since 2003, Mr Thompson has been based in Beijing as Wood Mackenzie's China Chief Representative and is the Principal Analyst for Asia-Pacific gas research. During this time he has worked on a range of projects including the development of an international growth strategy, upstream opportunity screening, LNG project evaluation, Chinese provincial gas price forecasting, analysis of the Chinese CBM market, and the influence of China on Pacific Basin gas markets and pricing. He directed Wood Mackenzie's Multi-Client Study 'Race for Supply - the Future of China's Gas Markets' in 2010. Based on positive client feedback for ongoing analysis and insight on China's gas and power markets, Mr Thompson led the launch of the dedicated China Gas & Power Service in May 2012.
