Mr Blas has worked the commodities beat for Financial Times since June 2007. He covers natural resources' markets, investment and regulation trends in commodities.
Mr Javier Blas has been the Financial Times' commodities editor since 2010, having joined the newspaper as commodities correspondent in 2007. He leads a team of reporters based in London, Beijing and New York covering oil, metals and agricultural commodities markets, trading houses, and the geopolitics and policy of natural resources.
Mr Blas has reported on commodities from more than 30 countries in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia over the last decade, including several times from war-torn Libya and Iraq. He was awarded the prestigious AH Boerma prize by the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation in 2011 for his coverage of the 2007/8 food crisis. Previously, he reported on international economy for both the Financial Times and the Spanish business daily, Expansion. He has reported on these subjects since 1999.
Mr Blas was born in Spain and received a BA/MA in journalism from the University of Navarra, Spain, where he specialised in business journalism. He also studied political communication at the UK's Sheffield University. He is fluent in English and Spanish and speaks French. He frequently appears on national and international television and radio.
