Steven Griffiths

Dr Steven Griffiths' interests and expertise are process design, technology strategy and financial analysis in the areas of information technology, biotechnology, and energy.

Dr Griffiths is the Executive Director of Institute Initiatives and Professor of Practice at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, a private, not-for-profit, independent, graduate-research institute located in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

At Masdar Institute, Dr Griffiths has responsibility for developing large-scale, collaborative research programs that are typically part of broader strategic relationships with industry, government and academia. He also oversees the Institute's Sponsored Programs and Technology Transfer Offices. His overarching role is to identify, establish and develop research activities that yield inventions and innovations with regional and global impact. Consistent with this role he additionally serves on multiple research and innovation committees outside of Masdar Institute, including the Emirates Solar Industry Association (ESIA) Executive Committee as Research Director, Abu Dhabi Science, Technology and Innovation R&D Taskforce, and the Zayed Future Energy Prize Selection Committee.

Prior to his role at Masdar Institute, Dr Griffiths was the Executive Director of the MIT Technology and Development Program's MIT/Abu Dhabi Program and the founding Executive Vice President of Light Pharma Inc. In these roles, he worked in the US, India and the Middle East leading the development and implementation of technical and strategic relationships.

Dr Griffiths holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
