Mark McArdle was first elected to Queensland Parliament on 7 February 2004 as the Member for Caloundra. During his time in Parliament, Minister McArdle has held many central positions including Leader of the Liberal Party and Deputy Leader of the Opposition after the merger between the Liberal and National Parties. Following the successful election of the Liberal National Party to form Government in Queensland in 2012, the Member for Caloundra was appointed Minister for Energy and Water Supply. The Minister is extremely passionate about cost of living issues impacting Queenslanders and has initiated vital reform processes in the Energy and Water sectors since taking the portfolio. This includes creating a 30-Year Energy Strategy and a 30-Year Water Strategy in order to provide a sustainable blueprint for the future of Queensland. The creation of Inter-Departmental Committees for Energy and Water Supply, including an Independent Review Panel for electricity, displays the Minister’s commitment to ensuring a holistic and informed approach to long-term reform. Minister McArdle and his wife, Judy, have lived on the Sunshine Coast for 24 years and have a grown family.
