Mr Wong graduated from University of Singapore in 1976 with B.Eng (Elect) and joined the Public Utilities Board. He is a registered Professional Engineer (Electrical), and a Senior Member of the Institute of Engineer of Singapore. He attended the Advanced Management Program conducted by Harvard Business School in 2001.
Mr Wong has the unique experience in all the three utilities when he held various positions in Water, Gas and Electricity Department while in PUB between 1976 and 1995. He joined Singapore Power Ltd during its establishment in 1995 and was involved in various privatization and energy market restructuring exercises. He had since held various senior management positions in SP group and was the Managing Director of PowerGas Ltd between1997-2002 when he successfully negotiated a billion dollars deal importing gas from Sumatra to Singapore. He was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2002 in Singapore Power Ltd. He was on secondment to SingPower’s business in Australia from 2004 to 2006 where he contributed in the integration of Australian subsidiaries and enterprise initiatives and assisted in the listing of SP AusNet. He joined Ministry of Environment and Water Resource/PUB in 2008 as the Asst Executive Director running the water R&D program funded by the National Research Foundation and was actively involved in the Singapore International Water Week. In 2002, he led a team to form the Gas Association of Singapore, GAS and is the current President of GAS. He was the Chairman of the National Organizing Committee when Singapore hosted the GASEX 2004 Conference and Exhibition participated by more than 2000 delegates from the regions. Mr Wong has been Singapore’s representative in the GASEX Steering Committee since 1994 and continues to play key roles such as led a team to re draft the charter of GASEX.
