Mark joined Royal Dutch Shell in 1980 after reading Psychology at University College London. He has experience of all parts of the downstream value chain, having worked in sales, marketing, supply, trading, strategy, M&A and business development. 

In his current role Mark is responsible for Shell’s Global Lubricants business, Aviation Fuel marketing, Bitumen, Sulphur and LPG. His Global Commercial team is made up of 10,000 people operating in 40+ countries. He also coordinates Shell’s cross business team developing LNG as a transportation fuel. Being based in Singapore, he also acts the regional coordinator for all Shell’s Downstream businesses in Asia Pacific and sponsors the development of Asian Talent in RDS.

Prior to the current role, Mark was responsible for Shell’s Downstream strategy, mergers,

acquisitions and divestments and Alternative Energy. In previous roles he developed Shell’s refining and future fuels strategy and made some of Shell’s first investments in advanced biofuels technology. He also led the global roll out of Shell’s premium retail fuels such as V-Power. He has extensive experience of the transportation sector, including 3 years as Global Sales & Marketing director for Shell Aviation. He has worked extensively on a range of environmental and sustainability issues and a few years ago completed a Masters Degree in Environmental Policy.

Outside Shell his professional interests include the healthcare sector, serving for 5 years as a non-executive director of one of the UK's National Health Service Trusts.

When not at work Mark enjoys spending time with family and friends and travel. His hobbies include skiing, watching sports, supporting Arsenal football club, reading, cinema and music.
