Sarkari Oksanen joined IRENA in 2015 as Deputy Director-General. He is responsible for leading the Agency’s programmatic work and ensuring close linkages between planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all IRENA activities.

Mr. Oksanen’s career has included 25 years of international management experience with the Finnish Poyry Group in the field of technical advisory and engineering design for energy, infrastructure and industry in Finland, China and Southeast Asia. Before joining IRENA, he served as director of the energy, pulp and paper unit at Europe’s largest engineering consulting firm Sweco.

In his capacity as a renewable energy expert, Mr. Oksanen has acted as an advisory consultant on energy planning and renewables for prominent international organisations, including the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, United Nations Development Programme, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
