A career civil servant with over 37 years of experience, both at the national and state level, Shri Gireesh B Pradhan was born in Mumbai on 20th December, 1952.

Shri Pradhan joined the Ministry of Power, as Joint Secretary, in November, 2003 where he was handling diverse subjects including Planning, Coordination, Energy Efficiency, Transmission and OM.

Shri Pradhan was promoted as Special Secretary in the Ministry of Power from 1st February, 2011 and took over charge of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in October 2011.

Shri Pradhan retired from Government service at the end of 2012. He was appointed Chairman of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission in 2013 and he continues in this assignment.
