Masakazu Toyoda is Chairman and CEO at The Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ). Since he assumed the post in July 2010, he has kept encouraging his team to produce wide variety of reports of energy and associated issues which are based on fair, objective and quantitative analyses. Contributions by Prof Toyoda and his dedicated team have led the organization to the honor to be among Top-3 Think Tank in the WORLD for 3 consecutive years, in the area of Energy and Resources Policy (2014-2016 Global Go To Think Tank Index by University of Pennsylvania).

Prof Toyoda also serves as an international advisor to several institutions such as:

  • Accenture
  • Brunei National Energy Research Institute (BNERI) -King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC)
  • Oxford Institute for Energy Studies -Pacific International Center for High Technology Center (PICHTR)  

In addition to above positions, Prof Toyoda is teaching "Energy Economics" at National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Tokyo as an Adjunct Professor.

Prior to joining the IEEJ, he held prominent positions in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan such as Vice-Minister for International Affairs (2007-2008).

Prof Toyoda holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Tokyo University, and gained an M.A. in Public Affairs in 1979 from Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University.
