Saleh joined the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia in 1990. In August 2017 he was appointed as the Secretary General of National Energy Council (NEC). NEC is chaired by the President of the Republic of Indonesia with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources as the Executive Chairman. The main task of NEC is to formulate energy policy, determine National Energy General Plan, determine energy crisis response measures, supervise cross sectoral energy policy implementation and determine energy strategic reserves. Before taking this assignment, he was the Senior Advisor of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources on Natural Resources Economics. He has also been a Ministry’s spoke-person, and involved in various activities including on energy modeling and planning, environmental impact assessment and energy crisis response. He holds a doctoral degree in natural resources and environmental management. He is also the member of expert board of the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society.
