Badlishah began his career with Arab Malaysian Development in the financial services section before joining Bank Bumiputra Malaysia Berhad in the Corporate Banking Division and was involved in some of the project finance syndications such as North-South Highway Project, Gas Malaysia, and PUTRA Light Rail Transit.
In 1995 he joined Abrar Discounts Berhad. At Abrar, he managed the first Islamic commercial paper facility, and Sukuk with warrants. During this period Abrar became the largest arranger for sukuk issuance. In his position as head of the capital market department, he arranged a total of RM3 Billion worth of sukuk. He joined the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) in 2008 and has been involved in development initiatives under the Development and Islamic Markets Business Group. His most recent initiative is incentivising and facilitating green sukuk issuances putting Malaysia on the global green bonds map.
Mr. Bashah holds a degree in General Management from Southern New Hampshire University and Masters in Accounting and Finance from the University of Hull, United Kingdom.
