Rajeev Kannan

Rajeev is responsible for various wholesale and investment banking businesses in Asia and Australia including Infrastructure & Project Finance, Principal Investments, M&A & Sponsor Finance, Loan and Debt capital markets, ECA & Export Finance, Asset Finance, Securitisation and Derivatives sales. Rajeev also sits on the Asia Pacific ALM committee as well as Risk committee for SMBC.

Rajeev Kannan has over 25 years of investment banking, emerging market investing and lending and energy and infrastructure sector experience.

Prior to April 2016, Rajeev was Executive Officer & General Manager, Global Structured Finance based in Tokyo headquarters of SMBC where Rajeev was responsible for Structured Finance business in Japan and globally. Rajeev moved to Tokyo in April 2012 as General Manager of Project & Export Finance Department and was promoted to Executive Officer in April, 2015. Rajeev was the first non-Japanese Executive Officer/General Manager to be based in SMBC’s headquarters. Prior to 2012, Rajeev was based in Singapore and had various roles with SMBC.

Rajeev is a member of Board of Director of Clifford Capital Pte Ltd, Pierfront Capital Pte Ltd (a mezzanine fund jointly established with Temasek) and on the Board of Commissioners of PT Indonesia Infrastructure Finance and sits on each of their investment committees. Rajeev also sits on the investment committee of Core India Infrastructure Fund.

Rajeev is also a thought-leader and is regularly invited to speak at conferences on infrastructure and energy sector and emerging market investing. Rajeev started his career at ICICI Bank in Mumbai in 1994 after graduating from Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani in India with a master’s degree in management and engineering.
