Summary of the latest experience:

Eng Kiat has more than 40 years of experience in utility information systems, transmission and distribution network planning, protection, operations and maintenance. He is with Accenture since Oct 2014 as Senior Principal, Intelligent Grid Operations, APAC. He is a Subject-Matter Expert in Smart Grid, focusing on smart grid and microgrid technologies as well as renewables and energy storage systems integration. He has supported smart grid projects in Australia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore including the OptiWatt project from EMA covering NTU, MBS and SPPG(single ring network).

Prior to Accenture, Eng Kiat was a senior principal consultant at DNVGL Energy – Clean Technology Centre (CTC) and was the lead technologist for the Asian Centre of Excellence, focusing on smart grid and renewable energy management. He provided a variety of electricity transmission and distribution related consultancy services including smart grid, SCADA/DMS/EMS, substation automation, network planning, power system protection, asset management, power system reliability and failure incident investigation. His responsibilities also included developing DNVGL CTC’s electricity transmission and distribution business segment as well as supporting the smart grid R&D activities.

Before joining DNVGL Energy, Eng Kiat was the principal specialist and project director of Intelligent Energy System-a smart grid pilot project, in Energy Market Authority (EMA). He designed and developed the concept and architecture for the smart grid system (including the integration of AMI) in Singapore. Before joining EMA, he was the general manager of regulatory and network planning division in SP PowerGrid for 5 years, where he headed the division and was responsible for regulatory affairs, transmission and distribution network planning. He was also a member of the ASEAN Power Grid Consultative Committee representing Singapore.

Eng Kiat was awarded with the ASEAN Engineering Award (Singapore) for Excellence in Technology in 1998 on the Distribution Automation/Distribution Management System project done in Singapore where he was the project manager and technical lead from the then Public Utilities Board. He was an adjunct senior lecturer in the Nanyang Technological University and has lectured on Power System, SCADA and Expert System Applications.
