Dr. Chiam Sing Yang assumed the appointment as Division Director (Optics & Electronics) in 2020, where he oversees the Electronic Materials and Advanced Optical Technologies Department, a group of ~90 scientist & engineers. As the Division Director, he takes care of external interactions with the agencies and industries, to help chart the R&D directions for the area. Prior to this, Dr. Chiam was the Head of Department (Electronic Materials) from 2017 where he leads a group of ~50 Scientist and Engineers in charting R&D directions and subsequently delivering on research programs/projects. He also holds a concurrent appointment as Deputy Programme Manager in the Defect Science Program examining defect related problems in semiconductor industry. Dr. Chiam was also appointed the Director for the Singapore Battery Consortium in Nov 2019, currently group with 28 industry and ~50 academic members. As the consortium lead, he help formulates the strategy and direction for battery related developments for Singapore through close interactions with all the consortium members. In April 2020, Dr. Chiam is also appointed as Director (Special Projects) in Science & Engineering Research Council, where he help shape the electrification strategy for A*STAR. Dr Chiam also contributes in other different activities across Singapore. For example, he is currently the Technical Advisor for Liron Pte. Ltd, acts as a review panelist for activities such as scholarships, startup grants and awards. He also participates actively in battery standards development.
Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Chiam Sing Yang was a Scientist at IMRE between 2009 and 2017. Dr. Chiam Sing Yang was also an Adjunct Assistant Professor, at Physics and Applied Physics in the School of Physical and Mathematical Science at Nanyang Technological University from 01/2011-01/2019. During which, he taught the full course in Semiconductor Device and Physics for 4 years, supervised and graduated both FYP and Ph.D students. Overall, he has supervised/co-supervised >20 FYP students and graduated 7 Ph.D students. Dr Chiam Sing Yang’s research focus on electronic materials, with specific interests and focus on semiconductor and energy-related applications. Dr. Chiam Sing Yang holds 4 patents and published >70 research papers, with total citations of >3000 with a h-index of 28. The quality of his research has received a couple of awards as the Best Poster (International Conference on Electronic Materials, 2016) and Best Technical Presentation Award (ISRF 2014). His research articles has also received many commentary and media highlights in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017. His work in Energy and Environmental Science was also one of the Top 25 Most Read article.
