Vinod Kumar Tiwari joined as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Government of India in April, 2019. He holds post-graduate degree in Geology and in Forestry. In his career spanning over three decades, he served in various positions (HRD, IT, Legal, Personnel, Environment, Social and RR and M&E) in the Himalayan State of Himachal Pradesh in Republic of India. He worked as Joint Secretary in Ministry of Tribal Affairs in Government of India prior to moving to Coal Ministry.
In Himachal Pradesh (HP) he has served in the State Power Sector in various capacities for a decade. He has been pivotal in the development of several important policies in State Power Sector, State's Environment and Forest Sector; besides CDM Project, WCD Compliance, EIA, EMP preparation and compliance monitoring etc. for environment management. He has experience pertaining to land procurement and related issues including those of indigenous people. He has exposure to coal sector and its functioning in India and its relationship with India’s energy scenario. He has travelled far and wide and is trained in a range of subjects in India and abroad. He has been a visiting faculty for a number of national and state level academies and institutions.
