Dr Gareth Williams
Gareth is an Aeronautical Engineer who developed world-leading research into Self-Healing Carbon Fibre Composites during his PhD at the University of Bristol. The majority of his career has been spent in applied Research and Development in composite materials around the world and he has worked in professional services and consultancy roles for the likes of KPMG. Now Gareth has returned to his roots in Bristol, UK and is the Strategy Director at the National Composites Centre, part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult where he is at the forefront of introducing transformational change into the industry by utilising the benefits of lightweight, zero corrosion composite materials. Gareth has been at the forefront of introducing composite materials into emerging markets such as oil and gas, renewable energy and infrastructure. Gareth leads the cross-Catapult work on innovation for hydrogen and has been a driving force behind key initiatives such as Joule, the Hydrogen Innovation Initiative and SusWIND to accelerate commercial adoption of composite technology for the next generation of technology platforms.
