Dr Ilya Farber
A*STAR
Dr. Ilya Farber leads the Cognitive and Decision Science Group at the Institute of High Performance Computing, A*STAR. Among other projects, he and his team are currently developing behavioral models for a large-scale simulation of future vehicle electrification in Singapore.
Trained in both cognitive neuroscience and philosophy, Dr. Farber brings an interdisciplinary approach to topics such as cognitive assessment, behavior prediction and mental wellness. His team focuses on building systems with direct public impact, often through collaboration with public-sector agencies such as LTA, MSF and MOH.
Dr. Farber is also interested in issues of AI ethics and policy; he has helped to launch efforts in these areas at A*STAR, SMU and AISG, and has contributed to advisory panels and government round-tables related to AI and other scientific regulatory and ethical issues. In addition to his scientific work, Dr. Farber provides occasional commentary for Channel NewsAsia on US electoral politics and US-international relations. Prior to joining IHPC, he was Assistant Professor of Social Science at SMU, and Assistant Professor of Philosophy at George Washington University.
