Sharbini Suhaili is Group CEO of Sarawak Energy, Malaysia’s largest developer of renewable hydropower and provider of affordable and reliable energy to Malaysia and Indonesia.
Under his stewardship, Sarawak Energy is building upon its hundred-year history to advance sustainable hydropower development in the region.
Sarawak Energy is progressing its regional ambition in Southeast Asia through a proposed 1,375MW hydropower development in Indonesia and is spearheading the ASEAN grid’s Borneo sector following the corporation’s first export to Indonesian Borneo in 2016.
In 2019, he chaired the first Sustainable and Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF) in 2019, contributing to the Malaysian Government’s 2021 decision to recognise large hydropower as a contributor to national renewable energy targets.
Hydropower has also enabled a 68% reduction in Sarawak Energy’s main grid carbon emission intensity from 2011 to 2019.
Sharbini is an elected board member of the IHA. Other top tier partnerships to set international benchmarks include memberships in the United Nations Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UN GCMYB) and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
Sharbini joined Sarawak Energy in November 2016 after 30 years in the petroleum industry, overseeing international business operations in technical leadership and business development roles.
