Shane Rattenbury MLA
Australian Capital Territory
Shane Rattenbury has served as a Member of the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly since 2008, following a successful career in Greenpeace, where he served as Head of the global oceans campaign and International Political Director.
In 2008, Mr Rattenbury became the first member of a Green political party to hold the role of Speaker in any parliament in the world, and has held the balance of power in the ACT Legislative Assembly since 2012, at first on his own for four years and subsequently with Greens colleagues. He has held numerous ministerial portfolios during his almost fourteen year period in the Assembly, including Corrections; Justice, Consumer Affairs and Road Safety; and Climate Change and Sustainability.
He currently holds the position of Attorney General, as well as the portfolios for Gaming and Consumer Affairs; and Water, Energy and Emissions Reduction.
Through successive Parliamentary Agreements negotiated with ACT Labor, Mr Rattenbury has achieved a range of positive policy outcomes, particularly on climate, energy and emissions reduction. These include setting and meeting the ACT’s 100% renewable energy target in 2020, legislating future emissions reduction targets through to 2045 and crafting ambitious policies on phasing out fossil gas, increasing the uptake of EVs and promoting active transit and public transport.
