Mr Anil Kumar Nayar is currently Singapore’s High Commissioner to Australia in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Born in 1968, Mr Nayar graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science, Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from the National University of Singapore in 1993. He obtained a Master of Arts (International Public Policy) in 2001 from Johns Hopkins University, United States.

Mr Nayar joined the Foreign Service in June 1993 where he held the posts of Country officer/North America from 1993 to 1994 and Country Officer/Indonesia from 1994 to 1995. His first overseas posting was to the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta as First Secretary from 1995 to 2000. On his return to headquarters, he was assigned to the Southeast Asia Directorate where he held the appointments of Senior Assistant Director/Indonesia (2000), Deputy Director/Malaysia and Brunei and other Southeast Asia (2001 to 2002), Senior Deputy Director (2003 to 2004) and Director (2004 to 2006). Mr Nayar was then appointed as Singapore’s Ambassador to Belgium with concurrent accreditation to the European Communities, the Netherlands and Luxembourg from November 2006 to April 2012. From June 2012 to July 2022, he served as Singapore’s Ambassador to Indonesia.

In 2005, Mr Nayar was awarded the Public Administration Award (Silver) by the Singapore Government. In 2008, he was awarded the Public Administration Award (Gold) in recognition of his work as the Co-Agent for Singapore’s case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Pedra Branca. Mr Nayar was also awarded the Long Service Medal in 2016.

He is married to Ms Chan Peck See.
