Olivier Marchand is Deputy Director for Nuclear Safety Research at the French Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Authority (ASNR). A graduate of École Centrale Paris with a postgraduate degree in Energy Engineering, he has over 30 years of experience in nuclear safety research.

Throughout his career, he has specialized in nuclear fuel behaviour, reactivity-initiated accidents (RIAs), loss-of-coolant accidents (LOCAs), thermal-hydraulics, and severe accidents. He has held a series of positions, including research engineer, laboratory head, deputy department head, and research programme manager, before joining the executive management of ASNR’s Nuclear Safety Research Division.

Mr. Marchand is actively involved in international cooperation on nuclear safety. He represents ASNR in several major international research programmes of the Nuclear Energy Agency (OECD). He also participates in a number of bilateral nuclear safety research collaborations with organizations such as the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US NRC), the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Institute (SNRSI), the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), the Nuclear Regulation Authority of Japan (NRA), and Idaho National Laboratory (INL).

He has authored and co-authored numerous scientific publications on fuel performance modelling and severe accident analysis, contributing to advances in nuclear safety research and fostering international collaboration.
