Wei Huang

Mr. Huang Wei is the Director of the Division of Planning, Information and Knowledge Management in the Department of Nuclear Energy, IAEA. Since joining the IAEA in March 2016, Mr. Huang has led the Agency’s activities in energy planning, information and knowledge management to support various needs of the Member States.

He has served as the organizationally designated focal point to the IPCC, UNFCCC, and UN Energy, directly contributing to numerous key international events on the SDGs and climate change. These include the UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), the UN High-Level Dialogue on Energy (HLDE), the UN Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between the SDGs and the Paris Agreement, and several UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COPs)—including COP 30—as well as the 2024 and 2025 G20 Energy Transition Working Group (ETWG) and Energy Ministerial meetings, the Clean Energy Ministerial / Mission Innovation ministerial meetings, and the APEC Energy Ministerial meeting, among others. He has also been invited by the World Economic Forum to serve as a member of its Global Future Councils on Energy Technology Frontiers for 2025–2026.

As the Scientific Secretary, he successfully led the 1st and 2nd IAEA International Conference on Climate Change and the Role of Nuclear Power, convened in October 2019 and October 2023, respectively. He serves as Co‑Chair of the Steering Committee for the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) and the Lisa Meitner Programme (LMP)—flagship initiatives launched by IAEA Director General Grossi to address gender parity in the nuclear sector. He is also leading the Atoms4NetZero initiative, launched by Director General Grossi at COP 27.Mr. Huang’s career includes a mix of diplomatic, management and nuclear engineering experience, including decades of service in the nuclear industry (including nuclear power plant and R&D sector) and government in China (Director General of CAEA), along with diplomatic postings as Alternate to the Resident Representative of the Permanent Mission of China to the IAEA and Science Attaché in the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC.

Mr. Huang holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in nuclear engineering.
