SMES (Smart Multi Energy System)

  • Reducing carbon footprint  and energy  bill in a district (ERIAN): Conventional cooling and electricity systems are decoupled resulting low optimization, underutilization of assets , energy losses , over design and high CO2 footprint : SMES is an opportunity to deliver energy efficiency, cost savings, better utilisation of assets with greater system level optimisation.
  • Start up, Academia and Multi-National Companies; a new collaborative way to commercialize deep tech research: The traditional R&D approach isn’t working. After billions of dollar has been spent by various government and corporations on sustainability over more than a decade, last year UNESCAP SDG progress report shows that this region is not on track for any of the Sustainable Development Goals. This presentation illustrates an alternative collaborative approach for deep tech commercialisation involving all stakeholders.
  • SMES as a vector of Jurong Port innovation strategy (Jurong Port): Smart Multi Energy System (SMES) is an integral component of Jurong Port’s Living Lab Programme. Successful test bedding of innovative solutions will support our ambitions in developing the Next Generation Multipurpose Port.

DERMS (Distributed Energy Resources Management System)

  • Major Trends in the Utilities (Schneider): IEA suggested 70% energy consumption growth in 2040 vs. 2015. To cope with this staggering increase, utilities began to seek innovation not only to meet the demand but also to fulfill the sustainability and environmental commitments.  Therefore, today’s distribution systems must evolve. This presentation sets the stage of this paradigm covering the following: What are the expected Power industry changes? Trends for distribution utilities. High contrast across geographies. Decentralization, DER acceleration and the impacts on utilities
  • Grid2.0 management system, an enabler of large Distributed Energy Resources integration in Singapore (ERIAN): In its drive for sustainability, the Grid landscape is being disrupted by renewable integration, electrification of transportation, utility-level energy storage, and demand-side management.  The complexities introduced to the distribution system as a result of the large deployment of those Distributed Energy Resources or DERs are not only related to the intermittency of these resources but also related to a lack of visibility and controllability of these assets. In this presentation, we will introduce the changing role of a GRID2.0 management system, with Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS), as a platform to engage DER flexibility, to maximize DER integrations for grid reliability, stability while achieving CAPEX and OPEX optimization as well as the sustainability goals.
  • VPP development status, hurdles and outlook in Singapore (Sembcorp):  Energy transition to a greener and more sustainable future has been unstoppable. Despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, renewable energy is deemed as a strong long-term driver for the energy and power industry. Sembcorp is committed to meet the society’s growing green demand, devoting itself not only to various renewable resources, but digitalization technologies to make renewables smarter and more reliable.  In Singapore, solar PV deployment is accelerating, while Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and EV charger installation emerge. All of those require an intelligent management system such as Virtual Power Plant (VPP) from which both the grid and end customers are benefited in multiple aspects. This presentation will dive deeper into the various applications of the VPP and provide insights of the VPP development status, hurdles and outlook in Singapore.
