Advancing Emerging Energy Technologies for Asia's Low-Carbon Future

Low-carbon technologies are increasingly part of the broader energy transition, alongside renewable energy deployment and system-level decarbonisation efforts. As these technologies mature, attention is shifting from early-stage development toward deployment, scalability, and integration into energy systems.
Technologies such as geothermal energy and biomethane are gaining attention as potential sources of reliable low-carbon power in suitable contexts. At the same time, advances in applied research and innovation are helping to bridge the gap between concept development and real-world deployment, enabling new solutions to move closer to commercial readiness.
This roundtable will explore how emerging low-carbon energy technologies can be scaled and integrated more effectively. It will also examine what is required to move from innovation to deployment, and how these technologies can contribute to a more resilient and flexible energy system.

It will examine technologies such as geothermal energy in suitable locations, alongside other emerging solutions that are progressing beyond early-stage development. The session will also cover biomethane's growing role in gas networks, industry, transport, and bio-LNG for regional trade. The discussion will focus on potential at where these technologies can realistically contribute to energy supply, system flexibility, or emissions reduction in the near to medium term. |

| 15:10 - 16:00 hrs | Session 2: From Potential to Scale – What Enables Deployment of Low-Carbon Technologies While many low-carbon technologies show potential, scaling them remains a key challenge. This session will focus on the conditions required to move technologies, such as geothermal and biomethane, from pilot or demonstration stages to wider commercial deployment. The discussion will explore investment requirements, financing structures, system integration challenges, and policy or market barriers. It will also examine what makes a technology bankable and how deployment pathways differ across markets and technologies. |
