Day 1 set the stage for discussions and action on the "Energy Transition Towards A Net Zero World". The day started with Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong delivering the Singapore Energy Lecture. SIEW Keynote Address: Accelerating Pathways to a Net Zero World

Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency, says "much still needs to change, and we need to change fast" to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

In his address, Mr La Camera emphasised the need for a paradigm shift to sustain the energy transition and mobilise global efforts to address the challenges of our time.

He pointed out that there is now increasing global alignment with IRENA’s longstanding estimates, which were considered too ambitious but are now widely recognised. The World Energy Transitions Outlook 2023 made it clear that to stay on track with the 1.5°C pathway, renewable energy capacity must triple and energy efficiency must double by 2030. Read more

Welcome to Day 1 of SIEW 2023!

Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2023 kicks off today with our annual Singapore Energy Lecture. This year’s address will be delivered at 9:00am by Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Gan Kim Yong.

The 2023 theme is ‘Energy Transition Towards A Net Zero World’, so expect deep and wide discussions, particularly how governments, multilateral institutions and industry leaders can work together to support the big shift.

We will begin today’s sessions at 9.35am with The Leaders’ Dialogue on “Road to Net Zero” – a panel that will feature both Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency, and Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Temasek.
